Does your mind ever go wandering? If you’re like me, you’d be answering, “all the time”, right? Focus is one of the most difficult things to master. Not only is losing focus rough when we need to get things done, but losing focus on what is really important in life is worse. Why? Because what we focus on is what is important to us. This is why renewing our minds needs to be a crucial part of our daily routine.
When we renew our minds, we are asking God to take complete control of what we focus on. In other words, He directs our focus. When our focus is directed, we get a clear view of what is important in our lives. If we’re not renewing our minds daily, we are wasting energy on things that are keeping us stationary, therefore stunting our growth.
“What gets your attention, gets you” - Pastor Rick Warren.
Are you putting energy into things that will help you live a life of goodness?
We need to realise that renewing our minds and focusing on what’s important is absolutely possible! With God we can do it. No matter how topsy turvy and suffocating this world gets, God is significantly greater.
“You [God] will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You!”
- Isaiah 26:3 NLT.
I am thrilled about this news, and I can testify to this verse completely! Putting my trust in God has given Him the space to renew my mind and redirect my focus. It has been a complete game changer! Yes, it is a lot of work, but it’s so worth it!
Do you want to know something interesting, though?
When Adam and his wife, Eve were first created, they were perfect. And when I say perfect, I mean they had absolutely no flaws. In the beginning, there was no sin in the world, meaning they would have had perfectly functioning bodies and minds. Imagine that! What do you think you would be like if there was no corruption or decay in this world?
Let’s take a look at a possible scenario in our movie reference for the week.
Limitless. What a perfect movie name for our blog topic this week. If there was no sin in our world, everything we could do with our minds would be limitless! Let me give you a glimpse of what it would be like.

Limitless is a movie about a drug that gives you a razor sharp mind. Imagine that everything you’ve ever seen, smelt, touched, heard and tasted can be recalled in an instant. You notice every detail and can work at immense speed. Learning a language, studying a subject or learning a skill would take substantially less time than we know it to be.
Clearly, with the world how it is now, the only possible way we could get these benefits is through a miracle drug. However, I think these kinds of benefits are what Adam and Eve would have experienced before the fall of the world.
Since they were the first humans created by God, brought into a perfect world, they would have had absolutely no mental or physical health issues. They would have had the clearest mind imaginable and would have been able to experience 100% focus every day.
Unfortunately, sin did enter the world and it now takes a lot more effort for us to be focused. Distractions and wandering minds are extremely common for us, and it easily takes our minds away from all that is true, pure and admirable. (Philippians 4:8 NLT).
I’m going to give you some practical ideas from my experience on how you can renew your mind every day to experience better focus and less distraction; ultimately helping you succeed in your life. Come back next week and we’ll get into it!
